The United States Regional Security Office would like to advise that large groups of people are expected in the Old City to celebrate Eid al Adha on December 29-30. Personnel should avoid the Old City all day on Friday, December 29. Upwards to 100,000 people are expected to come to the Asqa Mosque during the day and evening. On Saturday, December 30, Morning Prayer begins at 7:10 a.m. and the same number of people are expected to be in the Old City from about 6:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Personnel should avoid the Old City on Saturday December 30 from 10:00 a.m. Personnel can also expect heavy vehicular traffic and some road closures around the Old City. Salah A'Din Street and Sultan Suleiman Street should be avoided during these times as they will be congested with vehicles and people.

Millions of Muslims are gathering in the Saudi Arabian city of Mecca for the annual Hajj pilgrimage which begins on Thursday amid enhanced security. According to Saudi officials, up to 3 million pilgrims are expected to attend the hajj which takes place amid fears of sectarian violence and militant attack as well as the stampedes and hotel collapses that have marred the pilgrimage in recent years.
The United States issued a travel warning for Saudi Arabia on Dec 19, 2006.
